Kestrelclan
CAMP | The Kestrelclan camp is situated in the largest meadow on the territory. The camp is a large hollow in the earth, with the Talltree situated in the middle of it. Caves and bushes line the walls of the shallow hollow, and brambles have been woven into a camp wall along the top. The entrance is a woven tunnel that has been reinforced with wooden spikes the cats drove into the earth on either side to prevent more than one cat from entering at one time. |
Dens
Leader's
Den
Den
The leader's den is below the Talltree, the gathering spot for the clan. The den is under the roots of the enormous tree. It has a layer of lichen covering the entrance of the den, and inside, there is a natural dip in the ground that makes a hollow where bedding is placed and piled to make a comfortable den. Near the entrance of the den, there is another, smaller stone hollow that serves as a water pit when it rains to store fresh water for the occupant(s) of the den. |
Medicine Cat's
Den
Den
The Kestrelclan Medicine cat den is situated in a deep burrow that's located in the furthest corner of the camp. The Burrow is large, with enough open space for almost an entire clan, and has tunnels running off of it, with their entrances lining the walls. A large, silvery spring-fed pool resides in the center of the den, and the medicine cat and apprentice sleep and store herbs in a smaller cave that's branching off of the main one. Nests line the walls of the main cave, and it has been noted that the den can hold and treat at least 2/3rds of the clan, if not the entirety of it, and that the tunnels lead to Neutral and Unexplored territory in case an emergency requires the clan to be able to escape. |
Warrior's
Den
The warriors den is also a cave within the camp. Grass overhangs the entrance for protection from the sun, but the den is fairly deep, so no sun usually permeates the air in the den. The den isn't nearly as big as the medicine cat den, but it is still fairly roomy, able to comfortably fit at least 30 full grown warriors within its depths. |
Apprentices'
Den
The apprentices' den is a shallow hollow situated under an old set of tree roots, where the twolegs had chopped down the tree that they had once fed. These days, the clan cats just use the dugout area to house their young warriors-in-training. This den can comfortably house about 20 apprentices, any more and another den will have to be constructed. |
Nursery
The nursery for Kestrelclan, is a large rock that had been carved out by a river. The rock was washed into the hollow a long time ago, and the cats set it up to be a den, digging out underneath it to make a small cave-like structure for the nursery. This den can comfortably house 10 nursing queens with kits, but more space can be dug out if more room is necessary. |
Elders'
Den
The Elders' den is under a rocky outcropping in the hollow. It was dug out, like the /nursery, to provide better coverage and more space. Currently it can house up to 10 Elders comfortably, but more space can be made if necessary. |
Territory Markers
Talltree
Talltree is the meeting place of Kestrelclan cats. It's where the leader gathers everyone together, and is the tallest tree in the entire expanse of the territory. The highest branches give a good view of the entire territory, but cats have been forbidden from climbing up to the top after the tragic incident with Crowstar falling and dying trying to save an apprentice from the same fate. |
Owl Forest
Owl Forest is the forest surrounding the great meadow the clan's hollow camp is in. It's comprised of thick, old oak trees and birch trees, and on occasion, where the territory meets that of Skyclan, a pine or two can be found within the depths of the clan's forest. The forest is mainly comprised of shorter oaks, making climbing lessons and hunting among the branches fairly easier here than in other territories. However, this isn't Silverclan territory, so a fair bit of the forested area is also coveted by taller birch trees, their pale bark hiding the lighter colored cats in the clan as they hunt. These trees are slick, and a bit more difficult to climb, but also provide much needed cover for those with white or pale coats. The borders around the forest are heavily guarded, since Kestrelclan understands they have one of the most highly sought-after territories in the new land the clanners have acquired. |
Suncast Meadow
Suncast Meadow is the large, sprawling expanse of land that Kestrelclan has their camp in. They occasionally hunt here, but the large open spaces are much more useful as places for cats to sun themselves or train with one another without fear of hitting a tree or rock. The gently rolling land is covered in wildflowers and lush grass, but since the clan has moved in, almost all prey have migrated from this area to avoid the cats altogether. |
Prey
Squirrels, kestrels, robins, larks, and sometimes hawks from the trees surrounding the meadow. Field mice are hunted from the meadow surrounding camp, but the clan mostly survives on the forests around the borders. |
