Waspwhisper Waspwhisper couldn't remember the last time he had just gone for a stroll through Silverclan's territory, his steps masked by some of the fallen leaves. The air was warm but not too hot quite yet, though that could be thanks to the canopy of branches and leaves above giving some shade that prevented him from feeling the sun on his back for long periods of time. The warrior had fairly long, thick fur that made him fluffy and look twice the size of most cats so it didn't help much in Newleaf and Greenleaf to be a thick furred cat. No, he was best suited for leaf-fall and Leaf-bare. But the reason for him wandering through the oak covered territory? Well, the tom found his thought deeply distracted and full of haunts of the past. Even after several moons had gone by since he had lost his sister and helped chase away the dog it still bothered him and played in his mind, his dreams. The screech of her fear rang in his ears every night and every moment his mind wasn't focused. Waspwhisper always lied that he was fine and that he just wanted to keep busy, but he could feel the concerned gazes by many a clan mate, obviously having concern for his detached attitude at times. Finally,Waspwhisper came to a stop at one of the water sources for the clan, peering down at it to take a drink but pausing as he gazed at his reflection. The scars were always a reminder, and sometimes he could feel the tautness of the skin that no longer had fur growing in those spots and sometimes he swore he felt a faint ache in them every time that dream of the attack returned. It made him visibly shudder and fluff up his fur in fear at the thought before he tried to force it back. ' I can't let this eat at me.' Waspwhisper scolded himself as he crouched and began lapping at the water. But could he really forget that day? Waspwhisper didn't know nor did he seem to pay much attention to his surroundings as someone else seemed to be joining the tom without him realizing it.

ʙɪʀᴄʜᴡɪɴɢ
The small tom had struck out alone from camp that morning. He was determined to get some hunting done before the others awoke. Birchwing had never been much of a fighter and was fairly useless in a border skirmish. He hated being a liability to the clan, so he made up for it by hunting like there was no tomorrow. Hunting was the only thing he thought he was any good at so that's what he did, day after day.
The irony of it sometimes coxed a smile onto Birchwing's face when he was out amidst the trees. If he had been a better hunter when he was back with his mother, maybe he wouldn't be so small or she wouldn't be gone. Guilt and grief mingled in the pit of the little tom's stomach at the thought of his mother. She hadn't deserved what he did to her. She had been so gentle, so kind and caring when his father wasn't.
One memory returned to the tom with sudden clarity. It was if he was standing back in the moment, looking up at her beautiful yellow eyes as she smiled softly down at him. Birchwing had failed to bring enough back for his father to eat. As a result, the evil older tom had attacked his son, leaving him with a stinging bite in his shoulder. Brittlepelt had been comforting her young son as he shivered against her flank.
The warmth and pain of the memory fizzled out as he heard a twig snap. The dappled tom stiffened a slight scent of his own fear wafting up to him. Could it be an intruder? They were upwind so it was hard to tell. He contemplated turning back to to alert someone else of the danger but decided against it. He was a warrior and it was time he started acting like it.
As silently as he could, Birchwing crept towards the sound, the white splotches of his coat making it almost impossible for the tom to blind in. For several tense minutes he tracked the occasional sound clearly made by another feline. With his fear growing he arrived a few tail lengths away from one of the clans fresh water sources. At its edge crouched a fluffy tom he knew by sight but had had few conversations with. Relief coursed through the little tom as he emerged form the bushes he had been attempting to hide in.
"Hello, Waspwhisper. What are you doing out here?" He tentatively made his way to his fellow warriors side and sank into a crouch. His small form was almost lost beside the fluff of the other warrior. Wasp whisper seemed lost in thought and seemed not to have noticed his smaller companion. Birchwing turned his large eyes to face the water, giving the other tom time to respond before saying anything more.

Maplenight had been out on border patrol, the confident, flawed shecat approached the two fellow warriors she had happened to spot next to a spring within the territory.
"... Waspwhisper? Birchwing?"
The shecat's gentle voice rang out within the air of the silent toms that were staring into the water below them. She frowned, peering over the edge to the water source herself and staring at her own reflection, her mottled black and maple colored fur rippling in the waves on the surface.
Another frown decorated her face, and she reared away from the water quickly, not too eager to get her paws wet. She huffed softly and looked at the two toms again, shaking her head slightly.
"What are you two doing out here? I knew Birchfall was, is, on a hunting patrol, but I didn't hear about your absence Waspwhisper."
The shecat spoke gently, coaxingly to the two toms that seemed lost in thought, not wanting to startle either one of them should they come out of their trance.
For: Waspwhisper (@tundra), Birchfall (@shadow) Mentoned: Nocat Notes: Figured I'd throw Maplenight in here XD just a meh.

"What are you two doing out here? I knew Birchfall was, is, on a hunting patrol, but I didn't hear about your absence Waspwhisper."Birchwing whipped his head around at the sound of a familiar voice. His green optics met the paler ones of Maplenight. "Birchwing," He corrected automatically. The small tom was used to his name getting messed up by clan mates. After all, he had hardly talked to any of them. He was always out hunting, desperately trying to make up for his lack of sparring skills. A twinge of embarrassment shot through Birchwing as he realized he was starring at the she-cat. He quickly diverted his eyes to look back at the water. "I didn't realize he was out here either. I had to stop hunting to make sure he wasn't an intruder," he mumbled the words to his paws, casting a brief glance Maplenight's way. "What are you doing out here, Maplenight?"
After the question was poised, he tried to keep his eyes steadily on hers. It wasn't something he was particularly skilled at, but he was trying. Making eye contact with others had always been a bit phobias. When he was younger he had been instructed by Horace to never make eye contact with him. As a result, the timid feline hardly ever did now, even though he knew it wasn't dangerous or harmful to him. In fact, it didn't seem to bother the others at all when he did. Birchwing ripped his thoughts away from the depressing topic of his father determinedly. The little tom's tail gave a tiny flick as he waited for a response from either of the cats. Waspwhisper The fluffy tom had been completely oblivious to those who had been around, much less what they had been doing. He was caught up in his own thoughts and feelings of sorrow he has failed to realize the disturbances he would have caused. In fact, he would likely have been an easy target for intruders if any had spotted him in his lost thoughts by the water source. So it startled him a bit when he heard an unexpected intrusion into his thoughts, turning his head to find another of his clan mates beside him. This tom was called Birchwing, someone he didn't talk much with, which for someone like Waspwhisper was nothing new but from what he had heard this tom next to him wasn't much different either in that area. Before he could reply or apologize, the large feline turned his head to find another of their clanmafes had arrived, this time Maplenight. He for a moment was silent as he let the two exchange words before he finally spoke. " First, I apologize for causing any alarm for passing by without much of a warning. I didn't really pay attention to where my paws were taking me." Waspwhisper said in a calm yet quiet voice, dipping his head to the two. His voice was genuine and eyes full of embarrassment since he had truly not been thinking straight. In truth, he had.been distracted and distant that day, thoughts far in the past to a few seasons ago that he couldn't seem to forget no matter what he did. He could distract himself but the older warrior still found it difficult. " I believe she was on patrol Birchwing, I think I heard her leaving sometime before I left." The slightly older male cat spoke before continuing, " As for myself, I was simply taking a walk you two. Occasionally even warriors need time to their own thoughts, even older warriors.". Waspwhisper stated with a flick of his tail, a casual motion to show he was calm as ever. He didn't seem to feel accusatory or smug for anything, he just simply was being honest. The tom was a cat of few words and his tone always seemed soft and calm, seeming to match his name quite well at the end but in battle that was another story, " I can help with hunting or patrolling if you two would prefer to make up for the disturbances I caused." Waspwhisper offered as he looked between the she-cat and his fellow tom. He was already out here so it wouldn't have hurt to help one or the other to make up for an unfortunate mistake on his part. "Birchwing."
"I didn't realize he was out here either. I had to stop hunting to make sure he wasn't an intruder."
"What are you doing out here, Maplenight?"
"First, I apologize for causing any alarm for passing by without much of a warning. I didn't really pay attention to where my paws were taking me."
"I believe she was on patrol Birchwing, I think I heard her leaving sometime before I left."
"As for myself, I was simply taking a walk, you two. Occasionally even warriors need time to their own thoughts, even older warriors."
"I can help with hunting or patrolling if you two would prefer to make up for the disturbances I caused."
The younger shecat shook her head, dipping it briefly to her senior.
"No, of course, I completely understand needing a walk alone in the woods. It was my mistake. I apologize for questioning your motives, Waspwhisper. You don't need to help me, I know how tiring patrol can be, especially for those who weren't specifically ordered to take it."
She felt like a kit again, being scolded by a warrior or elder for misbehaving. She knew it was wrong of her to question another warrior's motives, especially a warrior senior to her that was in her own clan. Her head dipped slightly, fur burning in shame at her actions.
The shecat then turned to Birchwing, embarrassment flooding her face and eyes at the revelation that she had messed up his name. He was her clanmate, for Soulclan's sake. You'd think the least she could do would to be at least remembering his name.
"And I apologize for my mispronunciation of your name, Birchwing. It won't happen again. Thank you for hunting so much, It really puts the rest of us at ease that someone is willing to feed the whole clan, or at least give a mighty attempt at it, by themselves. And you were brave, coming here alone to take on a potential threat you heard. And, as Waspwhisper stated before, I was out on patrol. Haven't finished it yet, the borders are so expansive, its rough covering the patrol duty these days."
Her tone was soft, but almost lifeless, her eyes showing how exhausted the femme was. She had been out on patrol since early morning, and had barely covered 2/3rds of Silverclan's expansive new territory. Her blood was Thunderclan, as was most of Silverclan with the exception of a few cats, so she was at home between the massive trunks of the oak trees around her, but she was still daunted by the sheer amount of territory the survivors had claimed.
There were times when the shecat wondered what they really needed all that territory for. Silverclan wasn't exactly tiny, but she wouldn't call the ragtag group of around six to eight warriors under Palestar huge either. Maplenight sometimes tried to imagine what ran through Silverstar's head when she proclaimed the entire huge oak forest that ran across a large portion of Great Bear Lake, for her clan, and what the original leaders all thought about it.

He had just come to expect the disregard for his words. Not that his clan mates tuned him out intentionally, he just talked so quietly he assumed they didn't hear him. At least that's what he told himself when he was excluded from a conversation. But when Maplenight actually turned to address him... He was at a loss of what to say at her praise. After taking a moment to recover, he hastily dipped his head in acknowledgment a small smile creeping over his features. Warmth spread through him as he met her eyes. Her praise about his bravery as he came to confront the 'intruder' stuck with him in particular. It was rare indeed to receive acknowledgment for his constant hunting as well. "Don't worry about it, it happens all the time." There was a slight pause in which the small tom didn't fail to notice the lingering exhaustion in Maplenight's eyes. She was right, the territory was extensive and very hard to patrol. He had lived in this forest long before the new clans came into this land. Birchwing straightened form his crouch by the water. "I can help you finish up the patrol, Maplenight. I already got a lot of hunting done and I can pick up what I caught later." Before she could decline the offer he added in a slightly louder voice, "it wouldn't be any trouble."Addressed: Maplenight ( 《∞♛𝕟𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖♛∞》™) Mentioned: Waspwhisper (@tundra) Notes: N/A

Waspwhisper " Apologies not necessary Maplenight, after all I was the one that disturbed you and Birchwing." Waspwhisper told her, twitching his whiskers in slight amusement to see she was embarrassed. Perhaps she even thought he was scolding her, but he hoped his amusement showed otherwise. He wasn't necessarily a senior warrior yet but he knew the younger cats might tend to feel worried of messing up or making mistakes around much older warriors than themselves. Though, Waspwhisper didn't feel he earned that respect, nor needed it. But he too didn't fail to notice the tiredness in Maplenight's eyes, inwardly showing concern for the lack of sleep some of the warriors seemed to get. And he wasn't much different but at the moment he was more than ready to go if need be. But his amber eyes turned to Birchwing who seemed to show pride in Maplenight's praise, causing him to show approval as well. " Indeed Birchwing, well done. I didn't even hear you following me, I must say your stalking skills were excellent this day." Waspwhisper agreed as the more he thought about it the more he realized it likely had not just been his thoughts. He had to admit, some likely would have caught his attention since despite his thoughts he hadn't been totally out of it to not be somewhat alert. Not to his usual level but he wasn't out of it enough to not try and defend himself. And he was glad to see his clanmates were cautious enough to seek out a possible issue even if they might have been mistaken. But the fluffy warrior turned his attention back to the two when Birchwing said he would help Maplenight despite her saying she didn't really need it. But he had to share his fellow male warrior's thoughts, Maplenight couldn't keep this up alone. Giving his pelt a good shake that puffed up briefly to make him look twice as big, maybe almost three times bigger than a normal cat it went back down and he stood at his full height. " We'll both join you Maplenight, it's only fair. And on the way back we'll pick up what Birchwing has caught. As you said, he catches a lot for this clan and it would take too long for him to get it all alone." Waspwhisper told them as he showed he was ready to join in as well. Maplenight shifted her weight and chewed on her lip thoughtfully at her clanmates' reactions. She wasn't used to others persisting when she said she didn't need help, and it was a nice feeling.
"I really don't mind finishing the patrol out by myself, but if you two insist, I wouldn't oppose the company."
The tired shecat smiled as she stretched and stood up once more, motioning with her tail at the two toms.
"If you're coming, you two, we need to move. If we stay here flicking our tails we won't get back before dark."
She chuckled and pushed her way through the bushes behind her, the leaves falling off their branches when she brushed up against them. She waited after leaving the tiny pool, sitting and watching the birds while the toms got up to follow her.
