Hawkheart The sun was just showing on the horizon, the morning was chilly but nothing the older warrior could handle. A small breeze seemed to blow by in the early morning air, causing him to fluff his fur up against the wind as he walked the border between Skyclan and Kestralclan, marking the border here and there as he went along. He had decided to take a walk and solo-border patrol of sorts, having felt he needed the exercise after being stuck in camp for a day or two helping around there since sometimes it seemed he was given easier tasks due to his growing age.
Sometimes he could only shake his head when the clan worried about his age so much. He purred in amusement at some who fretted about him when he seemed slower than usual, but for the most part he assured them he was just fine. His ears twitched slightly though as he heard movement ahead, turning his gaze from Skyclan's own territory into Kestralclan's own, catching a scent that he didn't quite recognize at first since the wind was blowing away from him. Curious to see what was going on, Hawkheart continued his stroll towards the source, until he spotted someone's torbie looking pelt within the undergrowth.
Pushing himself through the shrubs, the large black-brown tom finally spotted the form of Kestralclan's own leader, Echostar. He was quiet as he watched her stalk something, turning his gaze to where she was stalking towards, spotting the russet furred form of a squirrel which was soon fresh-kill in Kestralclan's home. Once more he couldn't help purring, this time in approval, "That was a nice catch there Echostar, seems Soulclan is looking down on you this fine morning." The older cat spoke up finally, seeing she seemed to be awaiting a patrol, or perhaps her own to catch up with her. She was far younger than he was by several moons and probably would have found his praise a little weird. But truth be told, Hawkheart admittedly missed those days when the clans were not separated and worked together to survive, despite knowing it was bound to happen sooner or later.
"Fine morning we're having so far isn't it?" He added, glancing towards the slowly rising sun, knowing sooner or later he might find himself with extra company on his own side of the border.

rΡdlΓght I make myself out to be an angel, but you'll find me just a devil capped in gold TAG: @tundra , @echo . WORDS: 235. NOTES: NOTES HERE Redlight stepped up next to his leader, tilting his head slightly to the shecat in respect, before focusing on the Skyclan warrior with narrowed eyes. He wasn't one to push, but he couldn't help but be suspicious of the older warrior, and his blunt tongue didn't hold his thoughts back very well, straining them so thin that most of his accusatory tone slipped through as he stepped up, placing his dark red tabby body between his leader and the strange Skyclan warrior.
"Yes, it was a nice catch. On our land. So buzz off, rat-face."
The young warrior hissed out the words, narrowing his eyes into slits. His life had mostly been encompassed by the clans being as they were today, separated and slip apart into their own territories, and Redlight in particular was extremely protective of his home and clanmates.
The red warrior took another step forward, fur bristling, and puffed up his long tail, making sure the older cat knew he wouldn't hesitate to attack if the mange-pelt tried anything. Suddenly, however, his attention snapped to the bushes behind Hawkheart, and his slit eyes scrunched further together.
"Come out, Skyclan scum, I know you're there."
His words were harsher to the hidden cat, and his hackles raised further when a long bengal tom with green eyes slid from the Skyclan side of the forest and stepped forward to stand next to his clanmate.
Pinesting hissed softly at the brute from Kestrelclan insulted his clanmate, but remained hidden, trying to assess if he was needed here, or needed to run back to camp and grab Brindlestorm, the temporary leader that was their head deputy. He listened to the red tom's threats, and watched him protectively place himself between the Skyclan border and his leader. He shifted his weight, preparing to back quickly out and dash to camp, when he stepped on a twig and snapped it with his paw, alerting Redlight to his presence and drawing his attention. "Come out, Skyclan scum, I know you're in there." Came the snarling tone of the tabby warrior from the other clan, making Pinesting's ears flatten and his shoulders flex. He stepped from the bushes and rose to his full height, the tall tom's spotted fur shining in the sunlight above the patrols.Originally, Pinesting hadn't even intended to follow Hawkheart to the border... He was actually hunting alone, but had heard the conversations and decided to quietly check it out. He was fully involved now, but not by intention, though he wouldn't back out of the challenge in the toms' tone. "I'd suggest you watch your tone, mouse-brain, considering you're almost on Skyclan land."He said calmly, narrowing his eyes and shredding the grass underpaw with his outstretched claws. He disliked that his older clanmate was being attacked by the egotistical brat of a Kestrelclan warrior, and any other disrespect wouldn't be tolerated by the bengal warrior.tagged: @tundra @echo | word count: 251 |

Hawkheart Tension was rising between both sides of the border, from Redlight's unnecessary state of hostility to the sudden appearance of his younger clanmate Pinesting, who showed equal hostility but in a more restrained way. Hawkheart showed nothing but calmness on his features as he watched the exchange, letting out a soft sigh as he raised a paw and gave it a lick while considering how quickly things had gone downhill. Though either tom had their reason for acting the way they were, both were a little over the top and not needed, especially when nothing had happened or no one was wronged in this encounter.
Following Echostar's actions, the black-brown tom pushed his way past Pinesting, putting himself between the bengal warrior and the border while being careful to ensure he himself was not stepping over the line. "Pinesting enough, no one was wronged here today so these actions are unnecessary. The only thing you'll accomplish is causing further provocation where it not needed." The older tom scolded, his tone stern and firm to make it clear to the younger warrior he was overstepping himself just as much as Redlight was.
Finally turning his attention back to the Kestralclan cats, he merely dipped his head towards Echosong, "No harm done Echostar, such unfortunate events happen." He gave a quick glance to Redlight then to his own clanmate, ear twitching as he heard someone approaching. "Sometimes the younger generation have bees in their brain to not think before they speak." He said, tone edged with annoyance at the lack of thought with such encounters that resulted in border skirmishes and unnecessary tension such as this. "But I know where my limits lie as well, I am aware of boundaries despite missing how things use to be. I will always respect the Warrior code and our way of life, even if some cats are not willing to."
Hawkheart was speaking from both his experience and wistful thoughts. He missed the days of journeying with the other clans, having grown up most of his life knowing nothing but that. Nowadays, there were cat who knew nothing of the sort and it sometimes pained him to see the need for cooperation dwindling over time. Though his gaze narrowed when the apprentice who arrived spoke, echoing similar thoughts of Redlight.
Bristlepaw Bristlepaw had been falling behind that day, finding himself handling some tasks in camp. The elders had needed some help and sought an apprentice or two to help remove bedding and bring fresh-kill, the young tom being one of them. The spiky furred tom grumbled as he clawed away the old bedding into a pile, before helping to place the newer, drier bedding down and making sure the elders had enough fresh-kill. It was menial tasks like this many apprentices hated but was necessary because elders were still their clanmates and a big part of clan life.
Once done, he gathered the bedding in his jaws and ducked out of the den, pausing when Stagstep called him to meet with Echostar and Redlight to join them on a patrol. Eager to be out of camp, Bristlepaw hurried out, dropping the old moss where it was usually deposited before hurrying off to the border, hoping he hadn't missed anything. He caught their scent along one part and followed, his ears perked forward and all his senses on alert for them, finally catching their voices on the wind nearby. But, there were two others mixed in, ones he did not recognize.
Eyes narrowed and fur bristling more than it was, the young apprentice was expecting trouble as he arrived on the tense scene, seeing Echostar and an older Skyclan tom separating his own mentor and another cat from fighting. But he had heard enough to bring his own thoughts, "Doesn't give you a right to still treat other clan's cats like your apprentice or acting like proud kin, much less stick your nose in our business." Bristlepaw growled, coming to stand beside his mentor. Tags: @echo , γββπππ§ππ£ππ π£πββγβ’ Notes: Adding fuel to the fire I believe

TAG: @tundra , @echo . WORDS: 200. NOTES: NOTES HERE Redlight barred his teeth at the cats across the border before backing off slightly, huffing crossly at Echostar. She was too soft with the Skyclan idiots, and he would surely tell her that. They couldn't go on acting like they were all one big happy family anymore, they were separate clans now, with separate territories and problems. She couldn't just act like they were all old friends.
He flicked his tail to Bristlepaw in silent greeting, his eyes remaining narrowed as his apprentice approached. The kid had the right idea, and he hated how close their leader seemed to be with the foxheart across the border that was now standing between the red warrior and the bengal Skyclan tom.
"Echostar, with all due respect, we're over the journey now. We can't just act like we're all a big clan anymore, and we can't have our "younger generation" thinking it 's okay to fraternize with the other clans. It's against the warrior code. You know that, especially as the cat who was made the leader of one of the new clans."
His gaze was hard, and slid over to Hawkheart briefly, the cold depths blank, before moving back to his leader.
The Skyclan tom flattened his ears and fixed his former mentor with a hard stare, before shooting the red Kestrelclan warrior a sneer. "With respect, Hawkheart, you can't accuse us of bees in the brain when you seem so close to someone who isn't in your clan. Isn't that, like, against the fundamental rules of separating as different clans? To have borders, and protect them? Not have a conversation with old friends over them. That's what gatherings are for." He glared at the older cat stonily, shaking his head at his clanmate. He understood that the older clanners had friendships, but he was slightly appalled at how loosely they regarded one another, as if they were still on the journey together. And yet, Hawheart still had the nerve to insult the "younger generation." It made Pinesting want to roll his eyes, but the young tom held the older clanner's gaze firmly, refusing to back down from his stance.tagged: @tundra @echo | word count: 158 |

Hawkheart The large tom stared down his former apprentice, well for part of his time that is. But then again, there had sometimes been a disagreement between Pinesting and himself, they got along enough to acknowledge one another as clanmates and Hawkheart had always shown support to get Pinesting to his warriorship after the death of his first mentor. But, there were numerous times the two didn't exactly meet eye-to-eye, and this was one of them. There was no doubt that right now Pinesting would not listen to reason, much less the large red warrior and the young apprentice at his side.
His ears flicked back to Echostar as she spoke, his gaze never leaving the bengal but he nevertheless listened to her before turning just in time to meet her gaze. "I had not meant for this meeting to last more than a short exchange Echostar, but then again I did not anticipate someone being unnecessarily hostile." Hawkheart told her, eyes flicking to Redlight which earned a low growl from the apprentice that the older warrior ignored before speaking, "And a good warrior knows when to pick those battles. I've had my fair share of skirmishes with Kestralclan and I'd die for my clan above old friendships any day." Hawkheart said with a firm tone, casting his gaze between the young cats. "Not every chance a patrol crosses paths needs to be hostile, sometimes civility works just as well. You never know when it might end up coming back to repay you."
Finally, he fully faced the three Kestral cats, giving one last dip of his head. "I believe we are done here, before any of this escalates to a fight that involves claws and teeth rather than words. I believe I have an apprentice to be concerned with of my own." Hawkheart gave a side glance towards Bristlepaw, "Perhaps one that'll better understand the need for manners." With that, the black-brown cat turned and headed further into Skyclan territory not entirely expecting his clanmate to follow.
Bristlepaw Bristlepaw had several things he wanted to say, to add to this conversation. But, he also knew that compared to his mentor or even the bengal warrior across the border that his words would hold little meaning or weight in this situation. After all, he was only an apprentice and not seen as entirely important and simply a young cat still learning. Another thing apprentices hated was being treated like kits at times unless they were older, and he was more in the middle right now rather than entirely close to being a warrior.
He gave a look of disbelief towards their leader, unable to believe that she was defending a reason to speak with old travel mates and merely shook his head, "We should still worry less about friendships right now, otherwise we'll never fully keep the borders." He pointed out at last, giving the large, older warrior a glare as he watched Hawkheart heading back further into Skyclan's territory. Redlight's ears flattened and his lips peeled back from his fangs, yellowed with battles and scuffles with the other clans to protect his clanmates, his friends, his leader herself. His pelt showed stories of disagreements going bad, not always his fault, but he couldn't stand that the older generation thought that being friends was a good idea. For all their preaching, he knew that once a bond was strong enough... Well, those bonds did more harm than good. Plus, the scar-riddled red warrior was already in a crabby mood over something completely unrelated, and being scolded like a kit in front of another clan's warriors by a cat he'd fought with his life to protect wasn't entirely making his day turn around.
"Forgive me, Echostar, but last time I checked, reciting our code doesn't save lives. Knowing when to act, when to ignore those across the border, and knowing when to cut of ties that could weaken oneself saves lives. Battle, when well done, saves lives. I didn't collect these scars for you to get scolded like a kit for making a valid point, and I especially don't appreciate being scolded for being right in front of my apprentice. You might be our leader, but you have to earn our respect. Mine, at least, and this little display won't make me any less of the thorn in your side I obviously am, from the look you're giving me. With all due respect-"
He spat the last words, a guarded look overtaking his form and eyes, his walls throwing themselves up in the dozens at being emotionally and verbally attacked by not only Echostar, but that Skyclan mangepelt as well. He might hate drama, but he wasn't ignorant. He understood, he saw what bonds did to cats in battle. It killed. And he wasn't about to let his leader be this foolish, punishment be damned.
"I don't appreciate especially being scolded for something I'm saying that is making sense. You, of all cats, should remember how it was the first moon. Cats died because of you and that idiot's chitchat. You're intraclan friendships got my friends who were in our clan killed. So No, I won't be forced to bow down to someone who has no respect for me and my words. Next time you want to try and command respect out of me, I suggest you attempt to show a little bit yourself."
He snarled, before turning heel, hurt shining vaguely in his deep forest colored eyes as he met her eyes a final time, before his expression went blank and he padded towards camp, waving his tail for Bristlepaw to follow. He could see her position, sure, but he wasn't wrong to fear for the safety of the clan with such lax views, from a leader of all cats. He shook his head and scoffed, frowning deeply as he trudged closer to camp, wondering vaguely if the diluted calico shecat would chase him and attempt to rip his fur off for his 'disrespect'. At this point, however, he would ignore her. It wasn't treason to ignore her, he was just preventing a further argument, and if she banished him for something so petty.... more power to her.
Pinesting wordlessly followed after Hawkheart, brushing past him, only to slow long enough to say his piece.
"You can't blame Redlight or I honestly. We've lost cats for friendships between clans like that. Hawkheart, you know I respect you deeply, but your foolishness when it comes to lecturing others on when to battle and when to not will eventually get others killed, I fear. I highly regard you as my former mentor, but I will not be backed into a corner on a subject I believe I'm taking the right side on. We're equals now. You can't berate or scold me like a kit for something I had every right to say. Please refrain from driving me into a wall in the future."The younger warrior nodded slightly before bounding ahead, letting his muscles stretch easily and fluidly as he made his way to the gorge they called home. Once he got to his destination, he slipped into the warriors' den silently, curling up on a ledge and ignoring pestering questions from his friend Brindlestorm. He loved her as a friend, but she tried to pry too much sometimes, and it tended to irk the hot-headed bengal tom.tagged: @tundra @echo | word count: 198 |

Hawkheart The older, larger tom peered silently at his former apprentice, letting him say his peace but never once interrupting him. It wouldn't change a thing even if he did, figuring the bengal would already have it in his mind that he cared not for borders or that things were different now. His tail swished softly, watching the tom take off without allowing him to respond in kind. No matter, Hawkheart could not change the mind of a stubborn youth, even one warrior he had trained after the loss of his first mentor.
Instead, he only shook his broad head with a soft sigh. 'Dear Pinesting, you can't see beyond your own concerns and worries to see what lies in front of you. Friendships can be just as binding as they are destructive. I lost friends too during that horrendous period of settling borders, but I guess you would not see beyond your own thoughts.' The senior warrior though to himself, trekking at a slower pace to enjoy the silence of the territory, making his way much more slowly to the canyon before slipping into camp, taking a moment to stretch his old body, leaving Pinesting to his own thoughts.
Bristlepaw The apprentice stopped in his tracks when Redlight let loose on their leader, his gaze shifting between the two older cats since he was left rather speechless at his mentor's anger and sadness. But, he didn't disagree with Redlight. Echostar had stepped too far over the line and had treated his mentor no better than a bee-brained kit, something he figured might have actually hurt the red cat's pride. They all trusted Echostar to lead their clan, to know when to make the right calls, but today did leave much to be desired in their eyes and Bristlepaw couldn't argue that the clans had gone through a lot to establish their lands and their borders, and keeping old friendships could be devastating to them all.
Once all was said and done, Bristlepaw bounded after his mentor when it was clear they were done speaking, quickly dipping his head to Echostar as he passed and trotted up beside his mentor. He wanted to speak but there was a lingering concern that if he said the wrong thing Redlight might go off on him next, even if he agreed with the older cat. His ears twitched however, turning to look over his shoulder when he saw Echostar coming after them and having a frown on his expression. "Echostar, hasn't enough been said today?" The young tom prompted, feeling that anything else said over the matter would just fan the flames of tension even more than it already had. Tags"γββπππ§ππ£ππ π£πββγβ’ , @echo

Redlight's steps faltered as he listened to his leader call out to him once more, before turning away from his form. He hated that she had used a learning experience for Bristlepaw as instinctive to make him turn around, but he had to admit; she was right. His apprentice didn't know the lay of the territory very well, and, even if Redlight's shoulders were still shaking with unbridled passionate anger, he wouldn't be the one to deny his apprentice a learning experience. With a swift kick of his back legs, he turned around, composing his face into a neutral mask on his roundabout, and stalked after the leader, his powerful muscles rippling below his fur. Turning his head slightly to the left, a singular forest colored eye connected with those of Bristlepaw, and he gave a swift nod, signaling the smaller tom to follow the pair.
"Come, Bristlepaw. She isn't wrong, you need to learn the land better. And... even if we were fighting, a clan must move on concerning trivial issues such as these if we're to survive and stay together. We live and we learn. And opinions are opinions, even if they do go against the code, they're still owed to every cat in the territories. So let's accompany the leader, she at least deserves that much today. It's not right to get so mad over a small fight of opinions."
His voice went from spitting and firey hot to cool and calm; collected. As he turned away, he flicked an ear back, listening to the ground closely to make sure Bristlepaw would obey his mentor's words and follow the two older cats. He hoped the small apprentice obeyed without questions. Redlight wasn't sure he could take much more objection to his words.

Bristlepaw 'trivial? Small?!You have got to be kidding me.' Bristlepaw thought with disbelief at his mentor's words now. True, he still needed to get a lay of the land a lot more, but this hardly seemed the time for a learning experience. Redlight had been about ready to rip Echostar's fur off, had been so impassioned by the conflict on the border and how Echostar treated it...now there was this. It was like one of those days where it seemed so pleasant and beautiful, before that beautiful day was ruined by incoming storm clouds that seemed to come out of no where. Although, this was probably best seen as a reverse of that.
Sighing, the apprentice turned on his heels and trotted after them, not being as quick to join them as Redlight had been to catch up with Echostar. Truth be told, he wasn't particularly looking forward to patrolling with his mentor or their leader after that fiasco. 'He wants me to learn, yet neither of you can get along. That makes sense.' He thought to himself, letting his gaze scan their borders more than make any eye contact with his mentor. Tags: γββπππ§ππ£ππ π£πββγβ’ , @ echo
